What Type Of Ant Do You Have?
The Argentine ant is considered an invasive species—they are native to South America, but have made their way to California. They are very aggressive and are known to displace other types of ants. A typical Argentine ant colony contains hundreds of queens and thousands of workers, meaning an Argentine ant infestation can persist for months. They are known to bite people. The best way to eliminate them is with professional pest control.
Pharaoh ants are well-suited to the warm, dry climate of Northern California. They often make their colony indoors. The good news is that they rarely travel more than a few hundred feet from their nest, making it easier to track down. Unlike Argentine ants, they don’t bite humans. You might find their nests in drains, pipes, and behind refrigerators or shelves.
Pavement ants are so named because of where they are almost always found: traversing pavement, trying to find a way inside. They are a larger ant, approaching ⅕ inch in length, and dark brown in color. They’re territorial and will fight other ant colonies. You might notice them at night, which is when they’re most likely to come out.
Carpenter ants make their nests inside wood beams. But unlike termites—which this ant is often mistaken for—they don’t eat the wood, instead simply burrowing inside to build a nest. Get an up close look and it’s clear that carpenter ants have a different body shape and size compared to drywood termites. If you notice signs of wood damage, but aren’t sure if you have ants or termites, give us a call and we’ll be happy to take a look!
We’ll help you exterminate your ant problem and prevent future infestations.
Once we treat your ant infestation, we don’t want them coming back. Ants can return if they can access your home or business, and food and water is available inside. We’ll seal up the entry points to make sure they can’t come back in.
But there are also steps you can take to help prevent ant problems from recurring. To prevent future ant infestations, you should:
Store food securely
Sweep the floor
Not leave pet food in the open
Ensure there are no water leaks
Seal entry points
